NBA Trade Rumors: The Minnesota Timberwolves ‘really’ want Ben Simmons
NBA Trade Rumors: The Minnesota Timberwolves ‘really’ want Ben Simmons if the Philadelphia 76ers don’t want him.
If the Philadelphia 76ers elect to shop Ben Simmons during the offseason, there’s expected to be vast interest in the all-star point guard. One of the latest teams that have shown interest in Simmons is the Minnesota Timberwolves.
According to a recent report, the Wolves not only want to land Simmons but they “really” want him if he’s available.
The trade market for Simmons should be massive should the Sixers make it clear that he’s open to be moved during the offseason and the Wolves would actually be an interesting landing spot. You’d have to imagine that Minnesota hopes to pair Simmons with Karl-Anthony Towns and they would dangle either D’Angelo Russell or Anthony Edwards (if that).
The Wolves would also have attractive draft picks that they could offer in a potential trade – if a bidding war begins to develop.
The big question is whether a Simmons-Towns duo would be good enough for the Wolves to take a significant step up in the Western Conference? On paper, you’d expect the answer to that question to be yes.
Simmons, when he’s playing at his peak, is one of the best and overwhelming players in the league. There’s a big reason why he drew comparisons to LeBron James earlier in his career and his measurables and athleticism haven’t changed.
If Simmons can get the mental portion of his game right – and perhaps a chance of scenery is what it will take – there’s no question that he can continue to develop into one of the best point guards in the league.
And it’s clear that there are many teams, including the Wolves, that are willing to bet on the sheer raw talent of a 24-year-old point guard that has already accomplish much individually through the first few years of his career.
Heading into the offseason, that’s something that the Sixers will have to wrestle in their minds – do they want to give up on Simmons just yet?
