NBA Mock Draft: Orlando Magic make two surprise selections
By Jason Hirsch
14. Golden State Warriors – Josh Giddey, G, Adelaide 36ers
Six-foot-eight playmakers do not grow on trees, and a chance to learn from Draymond Green makes Giddey an interesting draft-and-stash project for the Warriors.
I know that I advocated for the Warriors to go with lower-ceiling players who can contribute from day one with the seventh pick, but there are no guys at this point in the draft who could fill that role. So they might as well go with a guy who can give them another elite passer on the roster outside of Draymond Green.
Giddey’s lack of a perimeter shooting game (29% on 3-pointers) will limit his time on the floor, but he should be able to bring some juice to the Warriors’ second unit as he is also a gritty rebounder (12.8% rebounding rate).
Giddey will either need to develop a consistent jump shot or put on enough muscle to become physical enough to defend guys one-on-one on the perimeter to become more than just a career role player.
