Cons: In addition to the New York Knicks, there will be plenty of other teams looking to acquire Lillard

The Knicks aren’t going to be the only team that will swing for the fences to acquire Lillard. Teams such as the Nets, Celtics, Heat, Sixers, Warriors, and Lakers all have assets to get a deal done as well. They also could be teams that Lillard would be willing to go to as they have all been in the playoffs and are pushing to become championship-caliber teams as well.

The appeal of the Lakers, Heat, and Warriors is that they have all been to the finals in the last three years with the Lakers winning it all in the 2020 bubble season. Assuming Portland won’t trade in the conference, the Heat could trade young gunner Tyler Herro as the main piece in a trade. The Sixers could offer Ben Simmons, the Celtics could offer Jaylen Brown and the Nets could offer Kyrie Irving, all of which have been or are current all-stars.

But if Portland is looking for a rebuild they will want to most likely want a bevy of first-round picks as well and this is what truly separates the Knicks from the rest.

Do the pros outweigh the cons? Probably but it’s all on Portland to decide. The Knicks should do whatever it takes to add Lillard and hope that they can draw more key free agents to join him and Randle to truly contend for a title.
