NBA: 3 value free agents to watch heading into the offseason
By Jason Hirsch
NBA’s best value free agents: Terence Davis
Like Monk, Terence Davis is another restricted free agent who could have an interesting market this summer.
Because the Sacramento Kings gave up a second-round pick in this year’s draft to acquire Davis from the Toronto Raptors, I would be a little surprised if they did not make a concerted effort to re-sign him.
Davis has nice size at 6-foot-4 and shot splits of 51/36/81 in his time between the Raptors and Kings last season.
Like Monk, Davis really struggles to draw contact and get to the free-throw line, reflecting in his 12% free-throw rate last season.
A 58% 3-point rate versus a 39% league average, though, certainly will not hurt his contract talks.
I would really like to see Davis get more scoring opportunities as a cutter and off of screens in the coming years, wherever he ends up signing.
While the sample size is small, in15 possessions as a cutter while playing for the Raptors last season, Davis scored 1.47 points per possession, which ranks him in the 81st percentile.
Similarly, in 37 possessions off of screens last season versus 35 possessions the prior year, Davis saw his points per possession rise from 0.86 all the way up to 1.24, which ranks him in the 84th percentile amongst all players.
