Golden State Warriors: Bradley Beal isn’t a realistic trade target
The Golden State Warriors have room and assets to make a splash, but Bradley Beal isn’t the move.
It’s no surprise that the Golden State Warriors want to make a big splash during the offseason. For as great as it is to have two lottery picks (though, both are outside the top 6), this current core isn’t in a position where two lottery players will help all that much.
That’s why packaging those two picks (along with another asset or two) in hopes of landing another veteran star makes the most sense for the Warriors heading into the 2021 NBA Draft.
Though, as recent reports suggest (subscription required), it appears that the one player that is sitting atop the team’s wishlist heading into the offseason is Bradley Beal. While it’s a no-brainer that Beal would be the team’s top target this offseason, it’s also not a realistic trade target.

Bradley Beal isn’t a realistic trade target for the Golden State Warriors
Beal is a player that many teams are waiting for, however, he’s made no indication that he wants to be traded or that he’s willing to make the necessary steps in order to get himself traded. In fact, he’s been consistent with his messaging – and nothing suggests that he wants to leave Washington.
Even though throwing two lottery picks (along with another asset or two) at the Wizards would be quite the intriguing offer, I still don’t believe Washington or Beal is ready to move on for the time being. And the recent reporting would reinforce that.
The Warriors shouldn’t waste another year waiting around for Beal to either demand a trade or sign another long extension with the team.
Instead, Golden State should try to find another more realistic trade target that would fit with the Warriors without wasting another year of Stephen Curry’s prime. As we saw this past season, when he’s healthy, Curry is still one of the best – and most dynamic – players in the league.
Adding another quality player, along with the return of Klay Thompson, should be enough for this team to get back to contender status in the Western Conference.
The Warriors are going to make a move during the offseason. With how the team is positioned heading into the NBA Draft, it would be surprising if they didn’t. However, it’s likely not going to come in the way of a Beal trade.
