Potential NBA Draft steals: Luka Garza

A highly decorated player coming out of college, scouts find it difficult to see how Luka Garza’s skill set will fit in an NBA offense. The game has changed so much over the years and Garza’s style of play is more throwback playing a physical brand of basketball with his back to the basket.

Garza played all four seasons at Iowa and is a little older than the other prospects but he brings maturity and experience. While many prospects are drafted based on their talent and potential, one thing Garza has to his advantage is how he performed on the big stage. His stats from his senior season at Iowa, when he won National Player of the Year honors were impressive as he averaged 24.1 points and 8.7 rebounds while shooting 44 percent from downtown.

If Garza is drafted by a team with a diverse system and a head coach who is innovative and has a knack for finding ways for his players to utilize their strengths, then Garza will have a chance to be a good player if not great. He will more than likely be taken in the late first or second round, but teams shouldn’t sleep on this talented big man.

Garza is fundamentally sound and will more than likely be entering the NBA with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove to every single team that passes on him.
