New York Knicks: Finally get a superstar

The New York Knicks’ surprise season ended with a brutal exit to a better team. However, the season was undoubtedly a success, finishing 10 games above .500 (41-31) and with new hire, Tom Thibodeau, completely rebuilding the team culture.

This now is a crucial time for the Knicks to build on their success and truly compete. If they get hesitant, let key free agents walk, and don’t try to make big moves, they may return to the NBA’s cellar. Outside of Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, their next five highest-paid players are free agents.

Unlike previous seasons, the Knicks actually have the assets to put together a competitive trade package for a superstar. RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, Kevin Knox, Immanuel Quickley, plus a boatload of picks should entice even the stingiest of teams. Plus, they have the cap room to fit a higher-paid player in the mix.

If the Knicks can keep one of Randle or Barrett while acquiring a second superstar, watch out. Free agents will come to the bright lights of New York City.
