Denver Nuggets: Solidify the forwards

Despite losing Jamal Murray to an ACL tear, the Denver Nuggets still managed to make it to the conference semifinals. Now with an MVP and a healthy roster, they look to exact revenge on the rest of the league.

Denver needs to find a couple of guys to fill out their frontcourt next to the MVP. After losing Jerami Grant to Detroit, they cycled through forwards until trading for Aaron Gordon, who they believed could fix the problem. He didn’t. Gordon shot a paltry 26.6 percent from deep and graded out as an average player according to box plus-minus, win-shares, and other advanced metrics.

Now entering this offseason, veteran Paul Millsap is a free agent and JaMychal Green opted out of his player option worth approximately $7.4 million. This leaves the Nuggets with a mess of unproven forwards.

The perfect player to target is Bobby Portis, assuming he declines his player option. He shot 52.3 percent from the field and an impressive 47.1 percent from 3 last season. He also had the best defensive season of his career last year making him a great fit next to Jokic. Portis not only brings a championship pedigree to this Nuggets team but weakens the team that just won.
