NBA Draft recap: A heartwarming tribute

Terrence Clarke was declared for the NBA Draft his freshman season at Kentucky. He was projected to be a first-round draft pick and had a bright future ahead of him.

Then, tragedy struck.

In April, Clarke was fatally injured in a car crash that sent shockwaves through the sports world. He was just 19 years old.

After the conclusion of the lottery picks, the NBA put together a touching tribute to the former Wildcat. Commissioner Adam Silver announced Terrence Clarke would be selected with “the next pick” in the 2021 NBA Draft. Terrence’s family came up on stage, moved to tears, and was given a loud ovation by the crowd.

Terrence’s story is one of heartbreak, but also one of true humanitarianism. The empathy of players, executives, and fans for the Clarke family has been truly remarkable over the past few months. While Terrence is no longer with us, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts and spirits of the NBA community and through his memorial foundation.
