Bucks re-sign Bobby Portis for only $4.3M

Grade: A+

Coming off an NBA Championship and little cap flexibility, Bobby Portis had to be the No. 1 priority this offseason for the Milwaukee Bucks. However, since Portis didn’t have Bird Rights, the Bucks couldn’t go over the salary cap to re-sign him and were in danger of a team with cap room swooping him away. To make the stakes higher, starting power forward PJ Tucker signed with the Heat earlier in the day.

No biggie.

Portis decided to stay loyal to the Bucks, a rare move for the NBA and even rarer for a small market team like Milwaukee. He declined bigger offers from teams like the Heat to run it back.

The Bucks get a guy worth at least $12 million for just under $5 million. Additionally, they have all of their exceptions still intact.
