Rising stars get extensions

Trae Young and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander both sign for the 5-year maximum

Grade: A

Two guys from the loaded 2018 NBA Draft got paid the max during the first night of free agency.

They’re both worth it.

Trae helped lead his team to the Conference Finals this year and take the eventual champion Bucks to six games. If he hadn’t gotten hurt, the Hawks may have extended, or even won, the series.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander does not have the same accomplishments as Trae it doesn’t mean he isn’t worth the money. As a borderline All-Star at only 22 years old, he is the face of a rebuilding Thunder franchise. With a bevy of draft picks over the next few seasons, we may see Shai leading the Thunder to playoff success, like Trae, in a short period of time.
