The Miami Heat has gone all-in on “Heat Culture.”

Just a couple of years ago, the Miami Heat‘s master plan involved pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo or Bradley Beal during the summer of 2021. That quickly fizzled out and, instead of chasing a big whale this offseason (none were truly available), the Heat were left to resort to plan B or C (depending on who you ask).

In doing so, it’s quite apparent that Miami has gone all-in on “Heat Culture” heading into the 2021-22 season.

During free agency, Miami has done a great job in retooling the team around Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo and nearly every acquisition that the team has made thus far has leaned into the team “culture.”

The Heat began the offseason by signing Kyle Lowry, which was the splash the team had been lining up for months. Miami rounded out their roster by adding PJ Tucker and Markieff Morris. The Heat also re-signed Duncan Robinson, Dewayne Dedmon, Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, and Victor Oladipo.

The Miami Heat has a veteran-laden roster that must lean on “Culture”

Overall, this is very much a roster that screams toughness and “Heat Culture.” After their plan A was put on the backburner, it was no surprise that the Heat elected to lean into their true DNA. It’s, in part, what has helped them remain as one of the most consistent and competitive franchises in the NBA since Pat Riley’s arrival with the team.

The big question heading into next season is whether or not this will all pay off for the Heat. This roster is not going to beat you with pure talent – though the Heat would be considered one of the most talented teams in the league.

Instead, this is a team and collection of players that are going to win with effort, grit, a defensive mentality, and a never-die attitude. That’s what the Heat has been for the better part of the last few decades and an approach that has helped them reach most of their success.

Even the LeBron James-era Heat were known for their great defense (when they needed to be great) and effort on both ends of the floor.

It appears that the 2021-22 Heat are leaning into that mantra even more. And led by Jimmy, who has already led this team to an NBA Finals appearance two years ago, I’m not willing to count this team out in the Eastern Conference.

Whether you believe that “Heat Culture” is nonexistent or something that gets too much credit for Miami’s success, you better get ready. Because this season for the Heat is going to be all about that “Heat Culture” propaganda. And if this plan works out for Pat Riley and the Heat, it’s only going to get louder.

This season, for the Heat, is going to be team “Culture” vs. the world. We’ll see how it all plays out.
