Losers of the NBA offseason: San Antonio Spurs
It’s not that I place the entire blame of an underwhelming offseason on the San Antonio Spurs alone, but with what this franchise has been over the last couple of decades, it is odd that they’ve reverted back to an irrelevant team in the Western Conference.
And that won’t change heading into next season after whiffing in free agency. Entering this summer with one of the teams with the most cap space, the Spurs signed Doug McDermott, Jock Londale, Bryn Forbes, Zach Collins, and acquired Thaddeus Young as part of a sign-and-trade in exchange for DeMar DeRozan.
It’s clear that the Spurs are going to take a significant step back this season and we could be looking at one of the worst teams in the league. It’s just such a weird thought, especially coming from a Gregg Popovich-coached team.
