Houston Rockets’ offseason priorities: Will a leader arise?

With so many young players on this roster, the Rockets need a veteran player who will be able to show them the ropes, show them how to be professional and what it takes to win in this league. This is where John Wall’s true value with this team will lie as he has an opportunity to lead this team, guide them in the right direction, and put the team on his back.

Wall is an incredible competitor who plays relentlessly hard, he’s a phenomenal passer with amazing court vision with great playmaking instincts. Wall not only has to become a leader on the floor but off the floor as well and embrace the responsibility of leadership and being a role model because other players are going to look up to him and watch his every move as someone who has been there before and has had success.

Wall has playoff experience, has made several all-star appearances, and should be able to take these young guys (especially Green) under his wing. Another veteran on the roster who should be willing to provide leadership is Eric Gordon. He is the ultimate team player who unselfishly comes off the bench as the 6th man and should lead the young guys on the second unit.

The 2016-17 NBA 6th Man of the Year Winner should teach these players how to be prepared whenever their number is called and how to be effective in their role letting them know the importance of bench players and how they can determine a win or a loss for the team. If Wall and Gordon can step up and take the reigns, this team could exceed expectations earlier than expected.
