NBA: Way-too-early individual award predictions for 2021-22
NBA Coach of the Year – Jason Kidd
A poetic matrimony in the recent hiring of Jason Kidd to be the new head coach of his former team, the Dallas Mavericks. Good relations and a legendary history between both parties make this nothing short of a sensible move for the franchise. The Dallas Mavericks struck gold in the 2018 draft after trading for Luka Doncic who has since become one of the best players in the entire league, and he’s only 22!
The only thing keeping him from greatness is the Mavericks team around him. The roster has serviceable role players to back up Luka magic when necessary, but at the end of the day, the team continues to fall short in the postseason (usually to the LA Clippers).
Doncic is poised for another huge leap in his game after dropping 28 PPG in only his second and third seasons. He is doing the impossible at his age level and with such ease, it is almost frightening to imagine when he reaches his prime.
If Luka can propel the Mavs into a higher seeding atop the western conference, expect Jason Kidd to reap the benefits of his young Slovenian superstar and be praised for how he’s handled his predicted surge in play.
