Has Mitchell Robinson done enough to earn himself an extension with the New York Knicks?

During the 2018 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks took a big gamble on Mitchell Robinson with a second-round pick. Ultimately, the move ended up working as Robinson would quickly emerge as a hidden gem for New York.

Over the past three seasons, Robinson has been a bright spot for the Knicks. Even before their return to semi-relevance last season, there was hope that Robinson could – and would – end up as the long-term answer for the team at the center position.

And while some of that hope remains, it was a bit concerning as Robinson took a step back during his third season, one that was marred by injury which ended it prematurely.

The big question for the Knicks regarding Robinson heading into the 2021-22 season is whether or not the team should try to extend his contract before the mid-October deadline. At least for Robinson, it may not be that simple.

Does Robinson deserve an extension? At what value should it be? And is it in the best interest for the Knicks to pay him now or after another season? We explore all those questions.
