The New York Knicks’ roster situation

Looking at how the Knicks’ roster currently stands, there are three other bigs on the roster that will likely garner minutes from Thibodeau this season – Obi Tobbin, Taj Gibson, Nerlens Noel, and Julius Randle. Of those four players, Gibson is the only one that is not guaranteed 2-3 years with the club.

That is likely a good sign for Robinson. Even though Noel was signed to a three-year extension with the team during free agency, I can’t imagine the team views him as the long-term answer at the center position. Robinson still has to have an edge on that front.

Tobbin is also still very much a question mark and Gibson is more of a stopgap, locker room presence than anything else. On the surface, you’d have to assume that the Knicks would lose some significant depth if they don’t re-sign Robinson.

At least when it comes to the roster construction, New York has to be relying on an extension for Robinson.
