New York Knicks: Has Mitchell Robinson earned an extension?
Does Mitchell Robinson deserve an extension?
And we return to the big question for the Knicks, does Robinson deserve an extension before the start of the season? This can work in a few ways. For one, the Knicks can take the gamble and offer Robinson a fair extension that would work well for both sides.
If Robinson takes it, great. If he doesn’t and demands more money, then perhaps this is an issue New York elects to revisit during next offseason. However, at least offering an extension will show Robinson (and his representation) that the Knicks are indeed interested in keeping long-term.
On the other hand, the Knicks can tell Robinson, “well let’s see how this season plays out.” But this is often a move that could backfire. If Robinson plays even better than expected this season, it will leave the Knicks in a bad place – he could outprice himself and feel a bit slighted with New York’s approach to an extension.
Either way, this is not going to be an easy decision to navigate for the Knicks. Should they want to keep Robinson, absolutely. However, it will ultimately come down to value placement, how much flexibility New York wants to retain, and what Robinson values in the end.
