Cavs Rumors: Kevin Love and the Cleveland Cavaliers continue to inch toward a buyout agreement?
I don’t fully understand what the Cleveland Cavaliers are doing as of late, mostly with the decision to acquire Lauri Markkanen in a sign-and-trade that sent Larry Nance Jr. to the Portland Trail Blazers, but one thing is clear: they’ve acquired their Kevin Love replacement.
The verdict may still be out on Markkanen, but he’s exactly the type of player that you target if you’re looking for a Love substitute. He’s not exactly a Love clone, but he stretches the floor almost as effectively.
Considering his age, he’ll also be able to grow next to both Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. I don’t entirely get it, but you can at least make the case. Nevertheless, now that the Cavs have their Love replacement, where does that leave him?

According to a recent report, Love and the Cavs may or may not be moving forward toward a buyout agreement. While there are still conflicting reports, there is still the expectation that he will be bought out at some point this season.
It remains to be seen when it will happen, but it would be extremely surprising – especially considering Cleveland’s recent moves – if a buyout agreement didn’t come to fruition.
"An NBA source told me the Cavs were making progress toward a buyout for Love, who has two years and $60 million left on his contract. But the Cavs and other NBA sources have strongly denied it. This likely just another Kevin Love rumor, and there have been so many over the years. At some point, a buyout for Love make sense for both parties. No clue when that will happen."
Love is in desperate need of a fresh start and if that’s something the Cavs can offer him, it’s probably best if it happens sooner rather than later. While there are some benefits to having Love on your roster heading into the season, it would do him no favors as he looks for a career reset.
Cleveland is in a rebuilding stage and Love should be gunning for another championship at this point in his career. And while that is partly his fault, for signing an extension with the Cavs, a breakup between Love and Cleveland is needed.
As the two sides begin to realize that more and more, I suppose the question we should be asking is where will Love land next?
