Rajon Rondo will bring value to the Los Angeles Lakers.

At this stage in his career, Rajon Rondo might not be a player that many teams may be targeting on the open market. In fact, there’s a very strong case to be made that he probably only has a handful of years remaining in the league.

Nevertheless, his experience and presence are something that many contenders should be seeking after he was bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies. Though, it seems like he’s determined to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers.

And while this is a move that seems unnecessary and irrelevant, there’s a good chance that Rondo will bring some added value and much-needed depth to Los Angeles as they look to make another NBA Finals run.

Rajon Rondo is familiar with the Los Angeles Lakers

Even though Rondo didn’t play a big role for the LA Clippers in the playoffs last season, this is a player that is familiar with the Lakers’ system and one that played a big role for the team during their championship run two seasons ago.

If nothing else, he’s familiar with the team, has experience playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and will add depth to a roster that desperately needed it a year ago. And while the Lakers have already done a great job in addressing that this offseason, adding another veteran playmaker couldn’t hurt.

Especially after watching many teams struggle with the lack of depth last season, including the Lakers, it was imperative that Los Angeles doesn’t enter next season without it. At least on paper, that seems like it’s not something that will hinder the Lakers much.

There may be questions about fit with several of the players on this roster, but talent or depth won’t be an issue. In one way, this season will ultimately come down to how well head coach Frank Vogel can make it all work and how quickly the players can begin to click with one another on the floor together.

The Lakers have bright hopes of making it back to the NBA Finals in 2021-22. And while most of that will depend on how healthy this team is entering the playoffs, you can’t say that this front office didn’t do everything in their power this offseason to get the right pieces in place to give LeBron another shot at a title. And Rondo is simply one piece of that puzzle.
