Suns trade rumors: Phoenix could look to make a move for Thaddeus Young.
It’s going to be difficult for the Phoenix Suns to top the run that they had during the playoffs last season. However, that’s something that the front office is tasked with as they fill out their roster as training camp quickly approaches.
It will also be at the forefront once the season begins all the way through the NBA Trade Deadline. The Suns will need to get the most out of the final few years in Chris Paul’s career while also trying to maximize the early portion of Devin Booker’s prime.
According to a recent report (subscription required), one potential target that could arise for the Suns either in the next few weeks before the start of the season or at the trade deadline is Thaddeus Young (who was acquired by the San Antonio Spurs as part of the DeMar DeRozan sign-and-trade).

It’s not surprising that the Suns would be interested. That’s what contending teams do – they try to add along the margins during the offseason. That’s what the Suns would accomplish by acquiring Young.
He’s not a player that’s going to severely raise the ceiling for the Suns, but he is a quality veteran that will add much-needed depth to the frontcourt and a player that could buy rest for Deandre Ayton in spurts.
Young, 33, is coming off a season in which he averaged 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game for the Chicago Bulls. He was a vital player for the team off the bench and shot a career-high 56 percent shooting from the field.
He’s a consistent veteran that the Suns could look to add during what’s left of the offseason or in-season. Young would know his role immediately and could help add another element to the Suns that they simply didn’t have last year in the playoffs.
It won’t be easy for the Suns to keep up with the improvements that many of the other teams in the Western Conference made, but making strides in terms of depth and role players is exactly the way to do it – and Young would fit the mold almost to a T.
