NBA Rumors: 4 contenders are trying to lock down a commitment from Paul Millsap.

The glitz and glam of this year’s NBA free agency period might be done and over with, but there are still a few interesting free agents that have yet to be signed. And the hope is, with roughly just a month before the start of training camps, that each of them will begin to get some resolution to their situations soon.

One of those free agents that have yet to be signed is Paul Millsap, who is coming off a season in which he averaged nine points and five rebounds per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 34 percent shooting from 3-point range.

According to a recent report (subscription required), there are four contenders – the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, and LA Clippers (perhaps amongst others) – that are trying to ink him as teams begin to finalize training camp rosters.

Millsap is one of the bigger names still available on the open market and could still absolutely help a playoff contender. Millsap may no longer be in the prime of his career, but he’s a good leader and still a capable defender in some matchups. He can also stretch the defense with his consistent 3-point shot.

Any team that is able to sign Millsap before the season will likely be getting a veteran that will be useful at some point this season, likely during the playoffs. He’s more of a spot-starter at this point in his career but could absolutely help add some depth to a team’s frontcourt.

As training camps quickly approach, there are many teams that will be scrambling to finalize their rosters. In addition to Millsap, other free agents that are still available as of note are J.J. Redick, Dante Exum, and Avery Bradley.

The next few weeks should be interesting and the start of training camp and pre-season basketball should be here in a blink of an eye.
