What the Oklahoma City Thunder should be excited for: SGA’s Continued Emergence
One of the most underrated and overlooked players in the league, Shai Gilgeous -Alexander, has proven to be a certified franchise player with all-star level potential. He was incredibly productive last season especially considering he was the only legitimate scoring threat. That feat alone is impressive knowing that he was the main focal point of every opposing team they faced as coaches schemed their entire defense around stopping him.
SGA can shoot and drive, plays the game with high energy, and with better spacing, he will be even more dangerous with the ball in his hands. After putting up 23.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.9 assists on 50.8 percent shooting from the field, it’s safe to say that SGA is a top-30 player in the NBA as his stats don’t even tell the entire story of just how good he really is as a complete, all-around 3-level scorer.
Since Chris Paul departed via trade, SGA has taken full advantage of being the go-to guy and it’s clear to see the influence Paul had on him as a mentor. One of the best isolation players in the NBA, SGA does a good job noticing whenever his opponent is off balance or out of position as he usually takes advantage by using his craftiness. It would not be a surprise to see SGA earn his very first all-star appearance or even become an All-NBA selection.
At the age of 23, he is only going to get better. SGA just recently signed a 5-year deal worth $172 million in base salary further showing the organization has faith in his leadership and ability.
