The Minnesota Timberwolves don’t want to trade anything for Ben Simmons; so do they really want him?

It’s been reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves are one of the teams most interested in a potential trade for Ben Simmons. However, there hasn’t been much reported traction on a potential deal.

While the Wolves may be interested in Simmons, a recent report suggests that they might be a little hesitant to make a truly competitive offer. Of course, this is assuming that this report is accurate.

So, if the Wolves aren’t willing to trade Anthony Edwards or Karl-Anthony Towns, and would rather not move D’Angelo Russell, I’m not exactly sure how serious they are about acquiring Simmons.

In fairness, no one really knows at this point if the Wolves are a serious contender to land Simmons. But if they aren’t willing to trade anyone of substance on their roster, I’d lean towards them not being serious about Simmons.

Or, perhaps this is just a negotiating tactic. It could absolutely be that too. Or maybe the Wolves would rather swap draft assets (and recruit a third team) to get a deal for Simmons done.

Anything can happen between now and when the Sixers eventually trade him, but perhaps this is the reason why it was reported that the trade market for Simmons left much to be desired.

Either way, this report is…interesting to say the least. Simmons will likely be moved sooner rather but at this point, I don’t think we can say one way or another if the Wolves are a serious threat to land the disgruntled all-star.
