Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks

After his 2021 playoff performance leading the Hawks to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, Trae Young displayed why he is one of the young and promising players in the league. Many people have criticized the draft-day trade when the Hawks sent the rights to Luka Doncic to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for the rights to Young, but that deal has worked out well for both teams.

It appeared as the critics were beginning to write Young off especially after he wasn’t selected to the all-star team, but that only seemed to add fuel to his fire as he was the main reason for the Hawks success in the postseason and should finally be given the recognition as not only one of the best players at his position but one of the best overall players period. Young possesses the heart of a lion as he displayed toughness, competitiveness and confidence while delivering during clutch moments.

It’s crazy because Young has yet to reach his ceiling and he has plenty of room to continue ascending and getting better. The Hawks front office recognized what they have in Young and made several important decisions this offseason in order to keep the team intact. They secured Young’s trusty sidekick signing forward John Collins to a five-year deal and also brought back guard Lou Williams.

The Hawks also brought in two solid players in the draft as they selected Duke’s Jalen Johnson and Auburn’s Sharife Cooper who himself should become a great compliment to Young coming off the bench with the similarities between both players. The Hawks also secured rim-protecting center Clint Capela for two more years. If Young could improve on the defensive end, he would be recognized as a complete all-around player, but what he lacks on defense he more than makes up for it on the offensive end.

Could next season be the year that Young leads his talented team to he Finals? Stay tuned…
