NBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving would rather retire than be traded away from the Brooklyn Nets.
The Brooklyn Nets are at a bit of a crossroad. They really have two options. They either will allow Kyrie Irving to be a part-time player this season or they may have to trade him if they don’t like the possible distraction around the team.
Of course, the state of New York can change its law and allow Kyrie to participate in home games. But, at least at this point, that doesn’t seem viable.
Nevertheless, at the same rate, even if the Nets wanted to trade Kyrie and avoid a potential season-long distraction, it doesn’t seem like that’s a likely scenario either.
According to Marc Stein, Kyrie would rather retire than be traded away from the Nets.
Of course, at this point, this is all moot. The Nets are not going to trade Kyrie right now and perhaps that’s not even a conversation that takes place anytime soon, My guess is that they’re still hoping he comes around on the vaccine and this all becomes a story that is now in the rear mirror.
If the regular season begins and Kyrie actually only participates in away games and it’s too much of a distraction for the team, that’s when we’ll likely see a trade conversation take place.
And with Kevin Durant and Kyrie pretty much running this organization, you can absolutely bet that both will be involved in those conversations.
For the time being, there are many shoes that still have to drop before we get to that point. The good news is that New York has deemed Brooklyn’s practice facility as a private entity and that now Kyrie can participate in practices.
It’s a small win for the team and Kyrie but at least he can now report to practices. Whether New York will reverse on Kyrie’s ability to play in home games remains to be seen. But perhaps there’s some hope?
