Matise Thybulle

Even though he may not be a superstar like Simmons, Matisse Thybulle’s defensive intensity is just as good as he has a knack for giving opposing teams fits. His awareness and anticipation are off the charts and his reaction to anticipating passing lanes is astounding. His offensive game may need polishing but he creates offense with his defense and the turnovers he causes.

It’s hard not to admire how he hustles and doesn’t give up on plays even after quicker guards get past him. Having Thybulle will greatly benefit the 76ers knowing they can assign him to guard the likes of the superstars they will face in the East like Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum and Trae Young as Thybulle’s defense will play a major factor later on in the season during critical games that could determine playoff seeding.

Thybulle’s efforts on the defensive end are relentless as he recovers well as he uses his length to his advantage. He is the true meaning of an underdog as many did not know who he was coming out of college but he is starting to make a name for himself. He plays with the same energy on defense that is reminiscent of Gary Payton, Ron Artest, and with a bit of Patrick Beverly just without the antics.

Thybulle is a defensive gem and can certainly make a positive impact with the 76ers moving forward. He possesses the defensive IQ, aggressiveness, positioning, and hustle to be an all-defensive team candidate and could also be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year. Expect Thybulle to be even better this season as he should see increased minutes with the absence of Simmons.
