NBA Trade Rumors: ORL’s Terrence Ross expected to be traded this season
NBA Trade Rumors: The Orlando Magic are widely expected to trade Terrence Ross at some point this season.
The Orlando Magic have gotten off to an uneven start to the 2021-22 season. Though, during training camp and the preseason, that wasn’t entirely unexpected. At 1-2 through three games, I believe that the Magic are roughly where many expected them to be at this juncture in the year.
While the Magic have more than a few interesting – and promising – young players on their roster, there is one veteran on the team that could make sense for many other contenders to try and pry away from Orlando – Terrence Ross.
Even at last year’s NBA Trade Deadline, when the Magic elected to trade away Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, and Evan Fournier, it was somewhat odd that they elected to keep Ross on the roster.
Nevertheless, roughly a year after that decision, the expectation is that Orlando will trade Ross at some point this season.
Ross is currently the Magic’s leading scorer, averaging 16 points on 52 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent shooting from 3-point range. It’s only been three games, which isn’t an ideal sample size, but there are many teams that likely could benefit from having a veteran offensive presence such as Ross on their roster.
And it would make sense for the Magic to try and get something from Ross before he can opt for free agency after next season.
The Magic are well on their way as they continue down the road of rebuilding but are nowhere near contention in the Eastern Conference. Not yet. Ross will be 31 years old by the time the playoffs come around this season and deserves to play on a team that will at least give him a chance to win big during the postseason.
Ross has spent the past six seasons as a member of the Magic; he began his career with the Toronto Raptors after being a top 10 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.
As the season continues to progress, Ross is a name to keep an eye on and one that likely many contenders in search of quick offense will target.
