NBA Trade Rumors: The Detroit Pistons are expected to be interested in acquiring Marvin Bagley via trade.
The Sacramento Kings are in an interesting spot regarding their roster. They have a talented core that they’re ready to build around but also some other young players that perhaps aren’t expected to be part of their future.
It has left the team in a bit of a conundrum. And perhaps could be part of the reason why they’ve gotten off to an uneven 5-7 start to the season. One of those players is Marvin Bagley, who has been public with his desire for a trade.
Bagley is a young, talented player but simply doesn’t fit on the team anymore. It’s likely that he is going to move on from the Kings at some point and many expect that to be via trade this season. If so, there should be plenty of suitors (if the price is right).
One team that is reportedly interested in Bagley is the Detroit Pistons.
Bagley has a chance to hit the free agency market next season and assuming that the Kings aren’t likely to re-sign him or match an offer he gets as a restricted free agent, it would make much more sense to try and regain an asset and to part ways with him now.
The complicated part of all this is determining Bagley’s value on the open market. He’s a former No. 2 overall pick but has not lived up to those expectations. That said, that doesn’t mean he’s a bad player.
Bagley has only played in one game this season, so it’s safe to throw away his numbers for this year. Last season with the Kings, Bagley averaged 14 points and seven rebounds on 50 percent shooting from the field and 34 percent shooting from 3-point range.
He may not be a full-time starter at this point in his career, but he’s still incredibly productive and, perhaps most importantly, such a young player (22 years old) that would most definitely benefit from a change of scenery.
From all indications, it seems like Bagley’s numbers as a King are numbered. Question is, will his departure from the franchise come via trade or free agency?
