It may seem unfair for the Houston Rockets to fire Stephen Silas now, but it may be necessary.

A little less than a year ago, it was announced that the Houston Rockets hired Stephen Silas as the team’s next head coach. The honeymoon didn’t last long as within a few months of being hired as the team’s next head coach, the Rockets traded both Russell Westbrook and James Harden.

It became abundantly clear that the Rockets were now, perhaps hesitantly, at the start of a complete rebuild.

Less than a year later, after going 17-55 last season and starting 1-16 this season, it appears that Silas is now on the hot seat. Fair or not, it seems as if the Rockets could look to replace Silas after, essentially, just one season.

"[via Bleacher Report]Now, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation have indicated to B/R that Rockets brass are weighing the future of Stephen Silas, who may become the league’s next coach to be terminated, following Luke Walton’s exit in Sacramento last weekend."

This entire situation is quite a shame. Silas wasn’t placed in an ideal situation probably didn’t expect to be in the situation that he now finds himself in. Nevertheless, if the Rockets are sure that Silas is not the right man to lead the Rockets into the new era of basketball, perhaps it’s best to make a move now.

Houston has lost 15-straight games this season and has the worst offense in the league. They haven’t made many strides this season and while their young players have flashed throughout the young season, I’m not sure the Rockets are any closer to finding foundational pieces just yet.

If the Rockets are going to make a move at head coach, as unfair as it may seem to be, this is the time to do it. Especially if they didn’t hire Silas with the expectation that he would be leading a rebuild. In fact, that’s probably not fair to Silas or the young players on this roster.

Houston was kind of thrown and rushed into a rebuild. It’s a shame that they didn’t know what was coming before the hiring of Silas. If the Rockets know that Silas isn’t the right man for the job, it’s probably better to rip the band-aid off now. No matter how unfair it may seem.
