Ja Morant is expected to miss some time for the Memphis Grizzlies.

If you had the Memphis Grizzlies tied with the Denver Nuggets at 9-10 and in the 8th seed in the Western Conference standings through the first quarter of the season, raise your hand. Ok, now that everyone has their hands down, it’s what is the current circumstance is at the moment.

Considering everything, it’s actually a solid start to the season for the Grizzlies. However, all of that could be in jeopardy now.

If the Grizzlies are going to remain in the thick of the playoffs moving forward, they’re going to have to do it, at least for the time being, without Ja Morant. After suffering a knee injury in the team’s 32-point loss at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks, the expectation is that Morant is going to be sidelined for a while.

Or, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski states it, he’s expected to miss games but will be back to complete the season.

What that means is impossible to predict right now. As he continues to be evaluated and gets more scans done, a timetable for a possible return should become more and more clear. For now, though, all we know is that he’s going to miss some time.

Morant is well on his way to another career year for the Grizzlies and was likely we’ll on his way to an all-star appearance. Depending on the severity of his knee injury, all of that, including the Grizzlies’ playoff hopes, could be in jeopardy.

At least for now, it appears that Morant will be able to return at some point this season. That’s amazing news if it proves to be accurate. Especially considering that the worse was expected when the injury first transpired.

The question for now is when the return will come for Morant. If it’s more of a couple of weeks type of injury, all is not lost for the Grizzlies. Especially considering that the West is far from out of reach, with the exception of the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.

If Morant is going to miss 2-3 months, then it becomes a question as to whether or not he should even be rushed back. Memphis might be able to stay afloat in the West for a few weeks. I’m not sure if they’ll be able to do so for two months.

For now, though, it’s the waiting game. Morant and the Grizzlies need some good news.
