DeMarcus Cousins gets a new start with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The defending NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks haven’t gotten off to the best of starts in their title defense season, but as the team has begun to get healthier over the last couple of weeks, they are certainly beginning to round into shape.
Milwaukee is 12-8 but has won eight of their last 10 games. In an attempt to stack depth to their frontcourt, the Bucks have agreed to a deal with DeMarcus Cousins. After a stint with the LA Clippers last season, Cousins had remained unsigned this season.
Now, he gets a shot with the defending champs.
There were thoughts that we had seen the end of Cousins in the NBA. However, it seems that, at the very least, he’s going to get one more shot. This time he’ll have a good shot to play meaningful minutes and perhaps have another good shot at winning an NBA Championship with the Bucks.
He’ll be somewhat of a luxury for Milwaukee, though they do need the frontcourt depth – something that Cousins will immediately help with. It’s unknown whether he’ll be in the rotation immediately or if this is more of an insurance policy, but it’s good to see Cousins back in the league; there’s no question about that.
Brook Lopez has missed all but one game this season for the Bucks and the depth behind him isn’t great. Semi Ojeleye has also missed nine games this season. Cousins may not be a full-time starter anymore but there’s no question he could help add some depth to this roster.
Cousins is just 31 years old and is coming off a season in which he averaged eight points and five rebounds per game on 54 percent shooting from the field in 16 games for the Clippers last season.
