The Brooklyn Nets’ depth will be tested without Joe Harris.
Considering that the Brooklyn Nets have played without their all-star starting point guard through the first quarter of the season, they’ve actually performed quite well. Through 20 games, the Nets are 14-6 and sitting in first place of the Eastern Conference.
However, it appears life is going to get a bit more difficult for the Nets and their depth is going to be tested even further. Joe Harris, who has started in every game he’s played in this season, is expected to miss 4-8 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery.
Brooklyn’s depth, which was already being tested with Kyrie Irving still away from the team, is going to be tried even more so with Harris out.
Even though Harris is not a headlining name, he’s been extremely consistent for the Nets. He’s one of five players in the rotation that is averaging double-figures and is shooting a red-hot 47 percent from 3-point range.
If nothing else, the Nets will miss his depth. For a team that is already somewhat razor-thin, losing Harris will hurt. Especially in the long run. The loss of Harris may not be immediately evident, but over the next few weeks, the loss will begin to be more and more visible.
Harris is one of those unsung players on the Nets roster that perhaps doesn’t get all the credit that he deserves. Especially with the unknown timetable of Kyrie’s return – if he even does so at all this season – this is certainly an injury to keep an eye on.
Over the last few weeks, the Nets have played much better. And that has coincided with a much improved James Harden. The Nets are playing like the contender many expected them to be before the season again and they will play a role in who comes out of the East.
