NBA Trade Rumors: Would the Houston Rockets really trade Christian Wood?
The Houston Rockets have been one of the worst teams in the league for what feels like the past two seasons. Since trading James Harden, the Rockets have struggled mightily. And that’s not exactly an unexpected development.
This is a team that’s at the beginning of a long rebuild and it’s going to take some time – perhaps a few years – to really see the fruits of their plan. However, that leaves many players on the current Rockets team in somewhat of a limbo.
John Wall has been discussed at length about his situation and Eric Gordon is in a somewhat similar spot too. However, one player that could find himself in an awkward spot with the team too is Christian Wood.
Wood signed with the Rockets last offseason (before the Harden trade) in hopes of potentially being another piece for a championship run. Instead, he was now in the midst of another rebuild (after leaving the Detroit Pistons).
Even though Wood is only 26 years old, I’m not sure he wants to spend a good portion of his prime years rebuilding with the Rockets. In fact, it’s not fair to him. Considering that he’s an expiring contract after next season, it wouldn’t be outrageous for the Rockets to possibly think about shopping him on the trade market.
And according to a recent report, the Rockets would, at the very least, listen to offers.
"There is an expectation around the NBA that Christian Wood, who’s in the second season of a three-year contract, will receive significant trade interest and that Houston will entertain offers."
Considering his age and production (17 points and 12 rebounds per game on 47 percent shooting from the field), the Rockets could get some quality offers. Wood is an ideal big man for today’s game and nearly every team in deep for help in the frontcourt should be interested.
If the Rockets wanted to add a few more assets, perhaps trading Wood is the route to take at this year’s NBA Trade Deadline.
