The Washington Wizards are in the playoff mix and out of the play in-game portion of the standings. If they were to find a way to trade for Sabonis, it would dramatically increase their chances of staying out of the play-in game.

Sabonis would also be a clear upgrade over Daniel Gafford, who averages nine points and six boards a game, which again is half of the nightly output of Sabonis.

The Wizards might be content waiting for Thomas Bryant to get healthy, but there is always the looming threat of Bradley Beal being unhappy in DC. Bringing in another All-Star player who could work with Beal could make for an ideal situation.

Trading for Sabonis keeps DC’s core young and doesn’t take away from Beal’s game.
