NBA Trade Rumors: According to a recent report, the New York Knicks could target Eric Gordon ahead of the trade deadline.

Kemba Walker may not have been a fit for the New York Knicks but that doesn’t mean the team is going to quit scouring the market for a guard that would significantly help this team get back on track.

One potential fit, according to a recent report, is current Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon.

"[via NY Post]Knicks point guard Derrick Rose has had Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon on his radar. Now, with the Dec. 15 trade marker past, Knicks president Leon Rose does, too.Gordon is on a long list of potentially available players the Knicks have talked about internally, according to a source."

Gordon is a natural trade target for the Knicks. He’s been relegated to a backseat role for the Rockets, who are at the beginning of a full-blown rebuild, and it would be surprising if Houston didn’t shop Gordon ahead of the trade deadline.

Even if a limited role this season off the bench, Gordon is averaging 15 points and three assists on 48 percent shooting from the field and 43 percent shooting from 3-point range.

He may not be the defender that Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau is looking for in the backcourt – which is part of the reason why Walker was benched – but his quick-scoring punch is exactly what this team could use even off the bench.

New York has a below-average offense and has been struggling on that end of the floor for what feels like the better part of the last couple of months. I’m not sure if a Gordon acquisition alone is what will remedy New York’s struggles, but he’d certainly be a boost to the team’s offense.

Plus, Gordon is essentially an expiring contract after next season as he has a team option for the 2023-24 season.

He shouldn’t be the only name the Knicks have at the trade deadline but he should be on the list.
