NBA Trade Rumors: Thaddeus Young wants to land on a contender
NBA Trade Rumors: Thaddeus Young hopes to land with a contender at the trade deadline.
As the NBA Trade Deadline draws closer and closer, there are going to be a handful of names that will begin to be brought up more and more. Especially when it comes to targets that contenders could have as a last resort addition to try and solidify their postseason positioning.
One player that should be kept an eye on in regards to that is Thaddeus Young. He’s not a flashy player nor one that jumps off the screen when watching him play, but he’s certainly a player that could help a contender.
Young, who was traded during the offseason to the San Antonio Spurs as part of the DeMar DeRozan sign-and-trade, is a 33-year-old forward that could help solidify a team’s frontcourt. If nothing else, he’d give a contender some added muscle and another body to utilize in a postseason game plan.
In a reduced role for the Spurs this season, in which he hasn’t started in a game and is only averaging 14 minutes per contest, has averaged six points and three rebounds on 56 percent shooting from the field.
Last season, in a reserved role with the Bulls, Young averaged 12 points and six rebounds on 56 percent shooting from the field. That was in 24 minutes per game. If Young could give that much production to a contender, there’s no question he could help fill a void for a team or two.
Young could even be used as a spot-starter, especially with this recent COVID-19 spread that we’re seeing across the league at the moment.
What will also make Young a prime trade target is the fact that he’s an expiring contract and he likely won’t cost much on the trade market. A team could probably get him for a late first-round pick or even two second-round picks and an expiring contract.
