NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers keeping an eye on Jerami Grant
NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers keeping an eye on Jerami Grant.
In a perfect world, the Los Angeles Lakers would be preparing for a busy trade deadline season. Then again, in a perfect world, the Lakers wouldn’t be struggling to remain around .500 at 16-17 in the bottom half of the Western Conference playoff picture.
Nevertheless, this season has been less than ideal for the Lakers. And that’s without the madness that has been caused by COVID-19 raging through the NBA. Even if fully healthy, it’s become abundantly clear that there are some clear issues on this Lakers’ roster.
Question is, do they have the ability to remedy some of those issues? If they do, it will have to come via the trade market.
However, that could prove to be increasingly difficult for the Lakers for at least two reasons – their huge payroll and the lack of tangible trade assets.
Either way, those two barriers aren’t likely going to keep the Lakers from trying. And one name that has been reportedly linked to the Lakers as of late has been Jerami Grant, the standout wing from the Detroit Pistons.
Grant would be a natural fit on this roster. He’d be a good player to play next to Anthony Davis and is the type of contributor that could be plugged in almost anywhere on the floor. Plus, he’s a good and versatile defender that the Lakers have missed.
Adding Grant could be costly, though. And the Lakers would likely have to outbid several teams in order to land him – the expectation is that there would be plenty of interest in Grant if the Pistons officially made him available.
So far this season with the Pistons, Grant is averaging 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game on 41 percent shooting from the floor. Though, what could make his market complicated is the fact that he’s currently sidelined with a thumb injury.
The Lakers will have interest in plenty of players leading up to the NBA trade deadline. The true question revolves around whether or not they have the necessary assets to actually acquire someone.
