NBA Trade Rumors: The New York Knicks are eyeing Jalen Brunson ahead of the deadline.
The New York Knicks have wasted little time in making moves with just a few weeks remaining before the NBA Trade Deadline. Last week, they acquired Cam Reddish from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for draft compensation and Kevin Knox.
Although, it appears that was just the beginning of their deadline plans. New York has its eyes on other players that they are targeting and, according to a recent report, one player that they’re keeping a close eye on is Jalen Brunson.
Brunson has been impressive this season for the Mavs as he’s averaging 16 points and six assists per game on 51 percent shooting from the field.
"[via New York Post]The Mavericks still haven’t afforded former Villanova point guard Jalen Brunson a contract extension and he has made another leap this season. As The Post has reported multiple times, the Knicks have had Brunson on their radar."
Brunson could be in line for a big payday and if the Mavs aren’t sure that they’re going to give him what he wants, perhaps they could look to trade him. Though, I’d have to imagine that the only way Dallas willingly trades Brunson is if they are making an upgrade.
I’m not sure that the Mavs, who currently sit as a top 5 seed in the Western Conference standings, are going to part ways with one of their best players at the midway point of the season. Especially if they are also looking to make an improvement to their roster at the deadline.
Of course, they could use Brunson as a way to facilitate a trade for a bigger difference-maker. It’s tough to see how the Knicks would oblige.
But it’s, at the very least, something to keep an eye on as we draw closer and closer to the trade deadline.
