The Phoenix Suns continue to flex their muscles, this time with some fourth-quarter magic.

The Phoenix Suns have consistently been the best team in the NBA this season, picking up where they left off last year before they faded in the NBA Finals. And, most recently, they’ve begun to separate themselves from the pack atop the Western Conference standings.

Most recently, the Suns flexed its muscles by beating the Dallas Mavericks 109-101 while outscoring them 35-19.

This is the third time these two teams have faced off this season, with Phoenix now sweeping the series. In all three of their games, the Mavericks have been leading the Suns at the end of the third quarter, but the Suns have outscored them by 12 points, 13 points, and now 16 points in each of the three games in the final frame.

In total, the Suns have outscored the Mavs 105-64 through the fourth quarter this season in their three head-to-head games. Overall, the Suns are now 3.5 games ahead of the Golden State Warriors for the top seed in the West.

The trio of Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton have continued their success from last season and have the Suns playing like a legit championship contender once again. And if the Suns can get to a place where they can turn on and off their closing switch – which has been evident especially in their three wins over the Mavs this season – this team becomes that much more dangerous.

There will still be many that doubt the Suns heading into the postseason, even though they’re likely going to head into the tournament as the favorites. However, it’s hard to deny the product that they have consistently put on the court so far this season.

Are the Suns the best team in the West? The league? Are the Mavs overrated? It’s still a bit too early to tell, but it will certainly be a fascinating second half of the season in the Western Conference.
