NBA Trade Rumors: Miami Heat eyeing Christian Wood ahead of deadline
NBA Trade Rumors: Ahead of the trade deadline, the Miami Heat are eyeing the possibility of acquiring Christian Wood.
The Miami Heat woke up Monday morning as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. At 30-17, considering the number of games that Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler have missed this season, it’s a testament to this culture and Erik Spoelstra.
However, the Heat shouldn’t be satisfied with this great start to the season. Ultimately, this team will be judged by what they do in the playoffs and even if they close the season as the 1-seed, they won’t be favored to come out of the East.
The Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks will likely hold that over them, no matter where they finish in the standings. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise if the Heat attempts to improve their roster ahead of the trade deadline.
In fact, they probably should. Interestingly, there’s one name that has been recently linked to the Heat as of late – Christian Wood. He’s a player that the team could be targeting as the trade deadline quickly approaches, according to a recent report.
Wood, who is averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent shooting from 3-point range, would definitely help the Heat and could give Bam that frontcourt mate that they simply don’t have currently on the roster (though, PJ Tucker has been good this season).
However, there are some concerns. For one, trading for a player such as Wood would be costly. And second, does a team that will likely be a top 3 seed in the East want to mess with the current chemistry?
The Heat already needs to work on the chemistry between Kyle Lowry, Jimmy, Bam, and Tyler Herro – who haven’t played many games together this season. Throw in a mid-season addition as big as Wood and perhaps it gets that much more complicated.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Heat made a trade at the deadline, but it would be surprising if it was a big move.
