NBA Trade Rumors: The Dallas Mavericks have been linked to two big names ahead of the trade deadline.

The Dallas Mavericks have been a bit better than expected during the first half of the season. They’re just two games back of the 4th seed in the Western Conference and Luka Doncic has once again proven that he’s a worthy No. 1 in the league.

Though, he does need a solid No. 2. And that’s not something he’s had throughout the first few years of his career in Dallas.

Heading into the deadline, however, the Mavs are hoping to land one via the trade market. According to a decent report, the Mavs have their sights set on making a big move.

"[via Bleacher Report]One dark-horse team mentioned as being interested in [Jerami] Grant was the Dallas Mavericks, with Dorian Finney-Smith and probably Dwight Powell as the primary pieces. The Mavericks have also been linked to [John] Collins in Atlanta and Marcus Smart in Boston."

It’s not exactly surprising that the Mavs are interested in making a move at the trade deadline, and a big one at that. The Mavs have failed consistently over the last couple of offseasons to land an additional star to pair with Doncic.

Kristaps Pozingis hasn’t panned out as the team hoped when they originally traded for him and the team has been subject to back-to-back early playoff exits because of that.

In an attempt to remedy their current status – to also help overcome the recent loss of Tim Hardaway Jr. (to injury) – the Mavs almost have to make an addition at the deadline.

I’m not sure if they’ll be able to land Grant, Collin, or Smart, but it would be a shame if they didn’t try. Especially if each of those players is being shopped on the trade market.

It’ll be interesting to see how the trade deadline pans out this season, and you can bet that the Mavs will try to get involved.
