BONAFIDE STUDS

2. John Collins, Atlanta Hawks

John Collins has been frustrated for a while in Atlanta, and deservedly so. Despite being clearly the second most talented player on the roster, his PPG and usage rate have gone down for the third straight season. The Hawks are completely sold on a heliocentric system around Trae Young, and it has led to Collins doing everything but publicly asking for a trade.

The report is that they were seeking a first-round pick and a starting-caliber player in return for Collins. If you can get away with that…it is a highway robbery. Collins has legitimate All-Star potential, is just 24, and his contract is through 2025 (PO in ’26). It is a NO BRAINER to acquire him if you can, especially if it is at the reported price.

1. Domantas Sabonis, Indiana Pacers

You may value Collins over Domantas Sabonis, and that is okay. Sabonis is a poor defender and does not shoot 3’s. He fits on fewer teams than Collins. But the fact remains that Sabonis is a two-time All-Star. Furthermore, the man is averaging 18+ points, 12+ rebounds, and 5+ assists per game for the third straight season. He is the most accomplished center on this list, and he is just 25.

The shooting may come around, but I am more confident on the defense. The fit with Myles Turner just never fully clicked in Indiana, and I think Sabonis would benefit in a more sophisticated scheme. He is brilliant in creating passing lanes, and I think he can be effective in disrupting them on defense. The report is that the Pacers are looking for a “Vucevic-level package” in return for Sabonis, and I believe him to be worth it. The Timberwolves would be a very fun destination.
