If the opportunity presents itself, should the Miami Heat trade Omer Yurtseven?

The Miami Heat has been one of the best teams in the league at finding diamonds in the rough. And it appears they have hit again with big man Omer Yurtseven.

When Bam Adebayo was injured, he played a big role and helped the Heat survive the loss.

Yurtseven is averaging just six points and six rebounds per game this season. However, when he plays at least 20 minutes, those numbers balloon to 12 points and 12 rebounds per game. When he’s been given a great opportunity, he’s been productive and good for the Heat.

So much so that he’s garnered some interest as the trade deadline nears. It’s not clear to what extent that interest is, but assuming this report is accurate it’s interesting nonetheless. And the stats would back up that idea.

The big question that the Heat may have to ask themselves as the trade deadline nears is whether they’d be willing to trade Yurtseven to cement a potential deal.

Of course, I’m not advocating for trading Yurtseven just for the sake of trading him. In fact, I would suggest the Heat be selective in what deals they’d be open to adding him in. However, if recent reports are accurate, there’s the potential of a conversation to be had if they should make him available to any deal.

And it won’t be an easy decision to make. On one hand, the Heat should feel good about cashing in an undrafted gem into adding another more ready asset that could contribute right now, on a potential NBA Finals run. On the other hand, I’m not sure how comfortable they would be in swapping such an asset for a flier or a rental. Especially if it’s not a move that will tangibly improve the team.

Heading into the NBA Trade Deadline, not many will be talking about this possibility for the Heat. Many will scoff at the idea of this actually being a difficult decision. However, it’s an interesting underlying storyline to follow over the next couple of days. And it’ll be interesting to see the post-deadline reports if there was a deal for the Heat that didn’t end up being taken.
