NBA Rumors: According to Brooklyn Nets head coach, Kevin Durant could make a return to the team later this week. It would boost the team.

With just a few weeks before the end of the regular season, the Brooklyn Nets have plenty of ground to make up if they want to avoid having to play their way into the postseason. But it appears they’re about to get a big boost as the stretch run has begun.

According to head coach Steve Nash, there’s a chance that Durant could make his return to the Nets’ lineup later this week. That suggests that hope is on the way for the Nets who have some pretty significant ground to make up.

"[via ESPN]“Every day closer,” Nash said after shootaround before Saturday’s 126-123 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. “We’ll see. I expect in the next week he’ll be back for sure. It could be quick; it could be the whole week barring any setbacks.”"

Durant has been out since mid-January and in his absence, the Nets have gone from second in the standings to 8th. With just 21 games left in the regular season, it’s unlikely that Brooklyn will be able to make much ground up but it would be huge if they can move out of the final two seeds in the conference.

And there’s probably a good chance that they’ll be able to do that. With Durant healthy this season, the Nets are 23-12. The bigger question for the Nets revolves around Ben Simmons’ potential debut.

When will it happen, if it happens? And, perhaps most importantly, will his presence on the team elevate them to contender status? That’s where the Nets were before they traded James Harden and it remains to be seen if that will still be the case with Simmons.

Either way, help is on the way for the Nets. Durant is ready for his return.
