NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers and Russell Westbrook are likely headed towards a divorce this offseason.

Objectively, I don’t think it’s unfair to say that the season for the Los Angeles Lakers has been an absolute disaster.

They are currently fighting for their playoff lives and are sitting in the 9th seed of the Western Conference standings without much hope of moving up before the end of the regular season.

Even if Anthony Davis returns, this team doesn’t have much hope of making any kind of noise in the postseason. That is, of course, if they can win their way into the playoffs after earning it in the Play-In Tournament – which is the likely scenario for the team.

The Lakers appear to be destined for big changes during the offseason. And it would be surprising if they didn’t include Westbrook.

According to a recent report, the expectation is that Westbrook and the Lakers will look to part ways during the offseason.

Of course, that could prove to be easier said than done – Westbrook is likely to opt into the final year of his contract which would pay him $47 million. The good news that would certainly help the Lakers on the trade front is that he’s an expiring contract. Still, any trade involving Westbrook could prove to be tricky.

Nevertheless, it appeared from the start that Westbrook was not going to be a good fit in Los Angeles. They gave it a try and it never seemed to click.

The hope is that both will be able to move on in a manner that will be beneficial for both parties. But, as we’ve seen time and time again, that could prove to be difficult. However, it appears that both sides are headed for a divorce this offseason.
