Taking a closer look at the only six teams that could win the 2022 NBA Championship.
Generally in the NBA, stars rise above all. In the Association, if you have an undisputed superstar, there’s a good chance you will be in the conversation to win a championship. However, over the past two decades, that has slowly begun to shift.
Nowadays in the NBA, not only do you need a superstar but most of the time you need two of them. And if not two of them, you need one really strong one and an overwhelming supporting cast.
On top of that, a team also needs to have a strong defense. Historically, if teams don’t have a top 10 defense, it almost automatically discounts them from championship contention.
Interestingly enough, the standings this season has been interesting to watch. Four of the five teams in the league don’t have a unanimous top 10 player in the league. The only team that does in the Golden State Warriors.
According to my formula, only three of these teams can legitimately win the championship this season. And one of them would get the nod via the Detroit Pistons exception.
It’s been an interesting season thus far and you can’t help but wonder what awaits us in the playoffs. Before we get there, let me explain why there are only six teams in the league that can realistically win the championship this season.
