Even if Kelly Olynk still has the ability to be a valuable 7th man (something very much up in the air) his salary makes him net negative asset, albeit not a huge ones given his small $3 million partial guarantee for the 2023-24 season.
The Detroit Pistons helping the Lakers clear almost $15 million in cap space factors into this deal, a factor I estimate to be worth something between a second-round pick and a first-round pick swap.
Of course, the key to this trade would be Jerami Grant being the third star that the Lakers desperately missed this season. Even if that’s not a foregone conclusion, this is probably the most plausible deals for the Lakers to make.
