NBA Rumors: Miami Heat to target big fish using Tyler Herro as bait?
NBA Rumors: The Miami Heat could use Tyler Herro as big fish bait this offseason.
As one of the league’s most dominating – and consistent – teams this season, the Miami Heat is hoping that they are on the verge of another deep playoff run. There’s a good chance they’re going to enter the playoff as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and if they do, they’re going to have as good of a chance as any other team to make a run to the NBA Finals.
However, if this season doesn’t end with a championship, it could make for an interesting offseason for the Heat. With the possibility that they’ll be a few big names available during the offseason, the Heat are certainly a team to watch.
One player that the team reportedly could use as bait is Tyler Herro, who is having a breakout season this year. He’s well on his way to winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award and could be in line for a big contract extension soon.
Because of that, it could prompt to the Heat shopping him.
"[via Bleacher Report]Miami has long been mentioned as a hopeful suitor for both Jaylen Brown and Bradley Beal, although each appears situated in Boston and Washington for the foreseeable future.Miami has clearly come to highly value Herro and was resistant to moving him to Toronto for Lowry last year, sources said. Yet league insiders maintain the Heat would sacrifice Herro’s promising ceiling for a chance to land the right superior talent."
It should come as no surprise that the Heat are a team that could be big fish hunting during the offseason. It’s something that has become second nature for the organization and that’s one of the biggest reasons why they’re on the cusp of another deep playoff run.
Sure, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro are two products of the team’s “draft and develop” program but the Heat isn’t where they are in the Eastern Conference standings this season without the contributions of Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler.
The Heat is always looking to improve the roster and short of winning a championship this season, it would be surprising if they didn’t approach the offseason in that manner. Especially if some big fish become available.
