NBA Rumors: The Miami Heat will look to beef up its frontcourt during the offseason, with eyes on PJ Washington and Christian Wood.

The Miami Heat is hoping to make a deep playoff run this offseason, with their primary goal winning a championship. The Heat currently sits atop the Eastern Conference and, if healthy, will have as good of a chance as any other East contender.

The Eastern Conference is so deep, however, that while the Heat is a legit contender, it also wouldn’t be surprising to see this team fall in the second round of the playoffs – or even in the first round if they draw the Brooklyn Nets.

Should that be the case, you can almost expect the Heat front office to explore making a big upgrade during the offseason.

According to a report from BR, two of those options during the offseason could be PJ Washington and Christian Wood – two bigs that came up in trade talks but ultimately the Heat decided not to pull the trigger on either of them.

Any acquisition for either of those players will likely be costly for the Heat. Not only would they have to make cap room, but they’d also have to open roster spots to do so. However, if the Heat does fall short in their playoff run, it wouldn’t be surprising if the team tried to make a big move during the offseason.

And if some of their plan A’s or even plan B’s fall through, a more second-tier addition, such as Washington or Wood, would absolutely be on the table.

As is the case for many contenders, what takes place over the course of the next couple of months will drastically impact how the Heat approaches the offseason.
